WY22 New Safe Pass Program

Driving Teton Pass? There's a new safety requirement to know about.
The WY22 Safe Pass program is now in effect on Teton Pass, and some drivers are required to complete a free annual self-certification before traveling over the Pass.
Who needs to self-certify?
- RV Drivers
- Anyone towing a trailer
- Drivers of vehicle or vehicle combinations with a GVW, GVWR, or 10,000lbs+
The program covers some of the specific challenges of driving the Pass, including its 10% grades, sharp curves, braking techniques, proper gear selection, vehicle inspections, and weight restrictions.
And even if you aren't required to certify, WYDOT recommends that ALL drivers review the materials. Teton Pass is a demanding mountain road and knowing how to safely descend a steep grade can make a big difference.
The certification is free, takes about 10 minutes, and is valid for one year. Our Department members are completing the program, and we encourage anyone who regularly drives the Pass to do the same.
