Wildfire Season Is Here: Honoring Those Who Protect Our Communities

As wildfire season intensifies across the West, our thoughts are with the families, friends, and fellow firefighters affected by the tragic loss of three wildland firefighters on the Knowles Fire in western Colorado. Two firefighters were members of the Rifle Helitack Crew and all made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting others. Wildland firefighting is demanding, unpredictable, and inherently dangerous. These tragedies serve as a powerful reminder of the risks firefighters accept every day in service to their communities.

JH Fire/EMS Foundation Board Member and Moran Station 4 Captain Mack McFarland is serving as the Wildland Safety Program Manager for the U.S. Wildland Fire Service and is leading the investigation into this incident.
